My First Plane Ride to Charlotte!

Ok, I have to share this with you! So, I rode on an airplane for the first time last week, right? Can you say nervous!  Before I was scheduled to leave, I was NOT ok with flying! LOL. Tell your neighbor, BUT GOD!

Stay with me. So, a few days before I was to fly out, I checked my email as I usually do and I had received a video from Tyler Perry's mailing list that was titled "Fly Above Your Fear!" I knew immediately that was God working on my behalf.

The timing of the video was just ON POINT!

As I watched the video, Tyler explains how he was afraid to fly and how he knew his career would suffer if he didn't fly. I felt the same way! I knew that God had called me to minister through music all over the world but not wanting  to fly would hinder me from traveling certain distances.

After I watched the video, I had to give God praise and thank Him for sending that word of encouragement through Tyler Perry aka Madea! He also used praying people that are close to me to encourage me to take that first step and overcome my fear of flying. And I DID!

I ended up riding on a total of 4 flights! Can you believe it? Before I boarded the first flight, I read a few scriptures from the Word of God. This one helped me a lot: 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind".

On my last flight home, I got to meet a nice Christian young lady who sat with us and we talked about God most of the way. That was right up my ALLEY! The entire flying experience, I felt that God had placed people to comfort me and reassure me that He was protecting me. God always takes care of His own. I REALLY believe and KNOW this and you should too!

I want you to know that I overcame one of the biggest fears that HAD me bound. YES I DID! I truly thank God for it and now I'm ready to fly ANYWHERE! LOL. If you have never flown before, I hope I have encouraged you like someone else encouraged me to fly above your fear! Trust God and know that He will take care of you. He said in Matthew 28:20 "...lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world". Face your fears my dear friends!

Many Blessings,

Wow! I enjoyed Tamesha's first experience with flying. I was amazed that it took this long. I remember when flying was a special experience, not the common way of travel it has become. Important businessman, political leaders, movie stars, those were the people who flew on airplanes. So I thought until October of 1968. My grandparents will celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Illinois. It meant a trip to Chicago! I was besides myself with excitement.

A trip to a city, a real city, meaning one with major league baseball teams, two of them! And an NFL franchise as well. And yes, I would be flying on an airplane.

Now, my dad, man of the world that he was, had flown on an airplane numerous times. He was one of those important businessmen I wrote of. He was a chemist for the Celanease(now Hoesht-Celanease Chemical Corporation), and so important was his research that the corporation regularly sent him on important trips to New York, Cleveland and New Jersey. One time he stood outside the window of the studio of the Today Show during the show and waved at us. That's the kind of things people who flew on airplanes did.

So, we boarded the airplane, a prop! An old fashion propeller driver airplane that the airlines have not used in a generation. We, like the important people we were, got all dressed up in our finest. I wore my best blue double breasted suit. In those days no one but no one would fly in jeans and a t-shirt. If you were flying on an airplane you were important, you were on an special mission, and you needed to look good.

That's when the letdown came in. No, I wasn't afraid at all. I was too excited. Then the airplane took off. My ears felt like they were going to pop, and after a point, the view was nothing but a senseless patchwork. You could tell that there were some cities down there, you could see that there were some rivers, but otherwise there was a series of patches, undistinguisable patches. And there was no sense of movement. None of the satisfying sensation of moving forward at all. My father was amazed and he always was. I wanted to see the countryside.

Nonetheless, I was amazed, not by the physical sensation but by another thoughtt. My grandfather died about two months later., He was born some six months before Orville and Wilbur Wright flew the first airplane in North Carolina(not that far from Charlotte, by the way). The night he died, the Apollo 8 astronaughts were circling the moon. My grandfather's life spanded a mere 66 years and six months, exactly the expected life span of the time. He was born shortly before man had ever flown and the night he died, men were flying around the moon. I have always been struck by the incredible times we live in, the incredible changes that have occured in such a short period of time.

So, I would say that, with these incredible and beautiful times we live in, it is important to know that this is a time for courage to face the future.
